Great pitching and just enough hitting - that's the summary of yesterday's 5-1 Gezer win over Hashmonaim.
Ealley Chorev started and pitched the longest outing in the era of the pitching limits - 5 innings. 11 K, 2 W, 1 infield hit allowed. 16 of 18 first pitch strikes. Need I say more? Amichai Boltax came on in the 6th and started slowly, 2 walks in the first 3 batters. After that - 9 of his last 10 pitches were strikes. Only blemish - an unearned run, a overthrow for the last out of the game at 1st base.
Hitting stars include: Chorev (3-3, 2B, RBI); Amit Yitzchaki (0-0, 3 walks, RBI; Avinatan Namer - first career HR(!); Ofek Yaakobi (RBI single in the 4-run 5th).
After a poor week the previous one, Gezer is now heading in the right direction, with one more game before the Passover break - next Friday at Netiv HaLamed Hay, against the Beit Shemesh Comets.
