In their final preseason friendly, the Gezer Bats defeated Modiin on Thursday by a score of 4-2.
Unlike the previous game, this one felt more like a regular season game. This game was scoreless through 2 1/2 innings, the first run scored by Gezer after Amit Yitzchaki, making his debut, walked and scored after 3 consecutive wild pitches.
Until it got very interesting...early highlights include: Starting pitcher Amichai Boltax got out of a 2 on, 2 out jam with a caught stealing (catcher to 3rd base). A 2-out triple by Avichai Schiffmiller in the bottom of the 1st but didn't score. A 1-2-3 inning by Schiffmiller in the 3rd, including 2 assists and a putout by 2nd baseman Ofek Yaakobi.
In the top of the 4th, Modiin scored 2 runs before Gezer brought in Ealley Chorev to pitch. He gave up a bloop single and a couple of wild pitches, but then came the play of the game: a groundball was hit between the pitcher's mound and the 1st base line. Instead of getting the easy out at 1st base, Chorev calmly fired a strike to C Evan Milgram, who tagged out the runner.
In the bottom of the 4th: Shalev Gazit singled to RF, Schiffmiller reached on an error, Chorev walked, and Reuven Livni hit a groundball to the P, who retired Livni at 1st but a run scored after 2 throwing errors.
